Morley Elementary School is located in Burnaby, B.C. We have approximately 340 students representing more than 25 spoken languages. We actively live by our motto of "safe, welcome and responsible" as we interact on a daily basis. Our aim is to empower all learners to achieve their personal best.
We've received many new registrations from families in our catchment and have a few more students than we expected. In putting together our classes for the year we have most of our students in multi grade classes. This is based on good practise and also because of class size limits. - "the longer students participate in (multigrade) settings, the more likely they are to have better attitudes and increased achievement." The Burnaby school district has also put together information on multi-age classes.
Classroom teachers, learning support teachers, support staff, education assistants and the school principal put a great deal of thought into organizing classes that will provide nurturing, productive learning environments. A number of criteria are considered such as: academic needs, maturity, attitude, behaviour, friendships, and leadership qualities. We also try to balance the number of boys and girls. With these guidelines in mind, children are grouped into classes. We strive for balanced classes at every grade level.
